Your Hair's New Best Friend

Posted on Monday, February 21, 2011

About every month or so at the salon we have classes to enable us to offer the latest new services to you all.  Usually somebody in the salon gets to be the model, and a couple weeks ago, it was me, and I am really excited to tell you about something that will make your hair so stupidly easy to style!
The Brazilian Blowout!

I am sure you have heard celebrities such as Nicole Richie, Lindsay Lohan, Jennifer Aniston, and pretty much everyone else in Hollywood rave about it, but now I can too!

My once frizzy, damaged, lackluster locks, are now smooth, shiny and incredibly easy to style.  Before, no matter how much tedious round brushing and how much product I applied, I still had to spend 15 minutes smoothing my strands with a flat iron after blow drying to look decent enough to walk out the door.  Now, all i have to do is blow dry to add a little volume and shape, and I am good to go.  Before, i would let my hair air-dry in hopes of beachy natural waves, to get a frizzy mix of straight and curly hair that took time to retouch with a curling iron to appear like a normal person.  Now, my hair air-dries frizz-free, shiny and smooth.

I know that I am a hairstylist, so i should enjoy styling my hair, right?  Unfortunately that is not so, and this has made the chore so much easier.  With the Blowout you still need to style your hair, it just makes it a lot more manageable.

So I feel that I need to show you the results on my own hair, but I am lacking an amazing photographer, and don't have too many great 'after' photos to choose from, but just see below how smooth and shiny my hair is now after blow dried, and a example of how frizzy it is after air drying (which was also hard to find.)

The Brazilian Blowout is a smoothing system which coats the hair strand in a keratin protein, which protects and strengthens the hair.  It helps improve the health of your hair by removing the burden that hot tools can cause to your hair, not only by eliminating the need for them, but by protecting the hair when they are used.  With proper after-care, it can last up to 3 months.  Unlike other hair relaxers, it doesn't damage the hair when applied, and is safe to use on colored hair, and treated hair can be colored as well.  Check out their website for more information, and take a look at their facebook page to see all the before and afters.

I strongly recommend the Brazilian Blowout to anyone who has frizzy, dull, unmanageable, coarse, curly, wavy hair, in any of the above combinations.  It can cut down your styling time, and leave you with prettier, healthier hair.  It is definitely worth the investment
Seriously! Call me so we can treat your hair!

The Life And Adventures of Jason Sayre's Hair

Posted on Sunday, February 20, 2011

My husband has some interesting hair, he hasn't let me cut it since the wedding, about 8 months.  Sorting through pictures I have come to realize that his hair has had some pretty good times these past months. See for yourself...

Sometimes, he lets me flat iron it for a laugh, sometimes he wakes up with a mullet, but mostly he just looks like this, hat on to hide his growing poof of curls that he won't let me get touch with a pair of scissors, because as all hairstylists know, husbands really do make the worst clients.

P.S. The Salmon at Blue Lemon is super yummy :)

Feather Hair Extensions

Posted on Friday, February 11, 2011

I am really excited to be offering a fun new service at the salon!

Feather Locks Hair Extensions!

They are so fun and bohemian looking.  I have just ordered my kit and can't wait until it arrives so I can put some in my own hair.
The feathers are put in your hair using a silicone-lined bead.  They can be washed, flat ironed, curled, and styled to match your own hair.  There is so many fun colors providing a variety of looks for your hair.  You can go natural and subtle, or bright and bold.  The feathers can stay up to 2 months and then can be moved back up and reused.  Take a look at their website to see all the colors available and read more about them at www.conditionculture.com

Feather extensions have been seen on a ton celebrities at different events like sundance.
They are a fun hair accessory, and relatively cheap!  They are $10 an extension, or $25 for 3
Call me so we can put these in your hair!  I am so excited to get them in and can't wait to show them off!

Happy Love Day

Posted on Thursday, February 10, 2011

In honor of the fact that Valentines Day is going to be here so soon, please download and listen to this song a million times, because I can't stop listening to it.  And didn't you know Alex Ebert is the lead singer from Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, who sing this song, which is also awesome, no matter how many times I hear it.

And aren't these the cutest?

It is unfortunate that we are so poor this Valentines Day, does anyone have any cheap romantical date ideas? Hopefully Jason can still pick me up some flowers, at least a carnation?  When we were first married and Jason was making all sorts of money working for a trucking company he would sometimes surprise me on his way home with a rose wrapped up in brown paper and the cutest ribbons from Roots downtown, but unfortunately those days are just a memory now.  Its ok because I got an awesome early Valentines present, she is a cat and her name is Tilly :)

Thrifting Finds

Posted on Tuesday, February 1, 2011

I had a very successful trip to the downtown D.I.  this past week.
I was making my way to the book section, because we all know my obsession with old books when I took a gander into the collectibles.  Among the scary porcelain dolls and ugly vases I found something that made my heart skip a beat!  A vintage 1969 Rand McNally globe!  The colors were so perfectly muted looking!  I knew at once I must have it!  And for only $10!

Yes...I did spend forever finding the correct date by figuring out which countries and cities were or were not on the globe before narrowing down to '69...
I also am slowly building up a collection of milk glass for my shelving unit of dreams.  Who knew milk glass would be so difficult to find?  Apparently Etsy does, because sellers everywhere are selling it for ridiculous prices.

My mom also very generously contributed to my shelving decor by letting me use the antique type writer used as a guest log at our wedding reception. Seen below on wedding day.

On a side note, I spent this evening glittering vintage book page hearts while Jason cleaned his guns.  We compliment eachother so well....

On a side-er note, I found this old video of my crazy roommate Rachel, and these videos were quite common with her around.  There is also one of me, Rach, and Louisa dancing to hip hop music in our Freshman year "Victoria's Secret Apartment" at the riv, (self-named after how closely our pink-on-pink paint job resembled the store,) but you can bet I won't be posting that.
