Happy Belated Halloween!

Posted on Friday, November 16, 2012

Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays.  When I was a little girl I would beg my parents to tell me "spoooky stories" at bedtime, and I love dressing up for any reason!  In fact, I think I usually have more fun putting a costume together and getting ready than actually going to Halloween parties.

Now let me flash back, Halloween 2010, Jason and I's first Halloween married, I can't even remember what we did, boring! Halloween 2011, we played games and passed out candy at my parent's house, and announced to friends that we were pregnant with Hudson!  Still pretty uneventful (Besides the prego part)!  Halloween 2012 we had Hudson to dress up and show off, which turned out to be my favorite Halloween yet!

While I waited for Jason to get home from class, I carved three pumpkins in a row, all by myself.  THREE!  Who does that!?  Someone excited for Halloween!

The puking pumpkins, and the baby pumpkin!

Jason got home and we put on our costumes.  The night before we managed to pull together some silly costumes.   We already had Hudson's giraffe costume, so we dressed Jason up like a bear, and I was a Zoo Keeper.

The rest of the night consisted of trick-or-treating at J's work.  Trunk or treating in the neighborhood, and a ward hot dog roast.   Hudson may not remember anything, but we sure will!

PS, Halloween is Tilly the cat's Birthday!  We celebrated her turning 2 with a candle and can of wet cat food, she loved the food hated the candle, in case you care. :)

SLC's Fashion Night Out 2012

Posted on Sunday, September 16, 2012

Last night I had the fun opportunity to style hair with the salon at Fashion Night Out.  I love doing hair for these sorts of things, it allows my to be creative in ways I don't normally get to be in the salon.  Plus, doing hair for a runway show was on my list of things to do as a hairstylist back when I was in hair school.  I feel I can now say my list is complete, something I feel few can say! I still have so much more I can accomplish, I think it is time to make a new goal list!

We did Hair for Mary Rino, a bridal designer who makes gorgeous romantic gowns.  We set hair in curls and weaved hair into big romantic dutch braids.  The green room was crowded with models, makeup artists, hairstylists and photographers all elbowing their ways around each other to finish the looks.

As we sat in the middle of the Gallivan Center waiting for the first runway show to begin, we people watched and were fascinated with how many interesting people were gathered to one place.  I began to get a sense of what it would be like to be at the Capitol in the Hunger Games.  People with hair every color of the rainbow wandered around, hairstylists with crazy (ugly) haircuts and black clothing liberally applied hairspray to models hair, people sat around dressed as if they had stepped out of every era possible. (Bettie Page you're real cute.)  As fun as it was, at the same time it was a little silly.  We all try too hard to impress each other...

Bear Lake

Posted on Monday, September 3, 2012

Last weekend we went to a Otteson family reunion at Bear Lake.  We had so much fun hanging out with cousins and babies!  Hudson did so well being held by everyone and sleeping in an unfamiliar place.

Bear lake is so beautiful, especially when compared to the mucky Utah Lake we are used to.  My mouth still waters for delicious raspberry shakes...yum!

Below, Jason plays twister with my uncle Brent and cousin Logan.  It was his first family reunion ever and he seemed to enjoy himself.

My cute nephew Asher on a kayak ride, Grandma Dot holding Hudson, and Jason and Huson in the water.

Hudson 3 Months

I can't believe Hudson is already three months old!  The past three months have flown by!   It seems like just yesterday he was a tiny newborn who slept all day and kept me up most of the night.

Hudson now LOVES to hear himself talk. He coos and squeals and jibber-jabbers to himself all day long.  We have had many long conversations about who knows what.

He took his first flight to see his Aunt Brittany get married.

He is so strong, he has been rolling from tummy to back since six weeks.

He has learned to hate his carseat, unless it is nap time.

He is starting to grab things, anything in his hands goes straight to his mouth, even if nothing is in them, his hands are in his mouth.  I found him sucking his thumb after a nap once!

We love this little guy so much!

The Birth Story Of Hudson Parker Sayre

Posted on Friday, June 8, 2012

On Wednesday, May 23rd I went to the doctor's for my 39 week appointment.  I was due in 3 days and had been hoping every night that the few braxton hicks I was having would turn into real labor.  My doctor had previously mentioned how much he doesn't like to induce before 41 weeks unless medically necessary, and i felt the same way.  Jason and I were shocked when he told me I was at a 4 and if I wanted to be induced on Friday it would be fine because I am so close already.  I replied that sounded great, we would be having a baby by Friday!

I spent the next two days anxious and nervous for Friday morning.  In this way I think an induction is torture.  Friday morning finally came and I called the hospital to check that coming in 9:30 was still fine, and they told us to wait a couple hours.  Time passes so slowly when you are waiting for something so big!

Finally at all 11:30 we arrived at the hospital.  I remember looking at the clock to check what time they started things, but the day was such a blur I don't remember that at all!  Jason says they didn't start pitocin until 2:30 and my doctor didn't break my water until about 4:00, but I swear it was a bit earlier than that.  After starting pitocin my nurse told me to ask for the epidural  as soon as my contractions started to get uncomfortable so I wouldn't let them get away from me.

After a few hours I started to feel a bit of pain with contractions.  The anesthesiologist came in and I thought what perfect timing it was, just painful enough that I felt I had experienced labor, but not so painful that I felt terrible.  I got all prepped and right as the anaesthesiologist was about to numb me, he got called away for an emergency c-section.  The next thirty minutes waiting for someone new to come was the longest part of labor for me, it felt like hours.  Pitocin was turned all the way up and all the sudden contractions were coming fast and hard.  I remember telling Jason over and over that I did not want this!  At least I now know I don't want to ever try for a natural childbirth, why put yourself through unnecessary pain?! ;)  Finally someone new came and gave me the epidural.  I remember cheering when he told me I was having my next contraction and I couldn't feel anything.

I felt a weird pain in my spine from the epidural, which the anesthesiologist seemed a bit concerned about, and all the sudden they were putting the oxygen mask on me and looking worried.  I remember looking at Jason so confused, I felt great but something was obviously wrong.  It turns out my blood pressure had dropped extremely low and was causing baby's heart rate to drop.  It was scary for a while, but eventually things went back to normal.

They checked me and I was only at a 5, I was a bit disappointed things were progressing slowly but knew with inductions things can take a long time.  Shortly afterwards my parents, Ryan, Amy, and baby Asher, came to visit before going out to dinner.  They stayed for about 30 minutes, and after they left the nurse checked me again and I was at 9 and 3/4!  After about 45 minutes of waiting I was at a ten and ready to push.

My epidural was working perfect, I could feel pressure to push and slightly move my legs, but no pain. I even watched in the mirror until my doctor came in and I knew I didn't want to see anymore.  In total I pushed for 24 minutes and baby Hudson was born at 9:22pm weighing 7 pounds 3 ounces and 19.5 inches long!

It was such a wonderful feeling holding my baby in my arms for the first time.  I was shocked this baby was just inside me, and in love with him already.  There is nothing like a newborn who is so fresh to the world.  I wish I could go back to the moment again and again, holding my first baby in my arms for the first time.

Hudson...One Week

Posted on Sunday, June 3, 2012

A few days late here is baby Hudson at one week old.  Of course I caught him during one of the few times he is fussy...

The first week for us as new parents has been exhausting and the best week of our lives.  There is nothing like a teeny tiny newborn, the are so fresh and innocent.  I wish he would stay so small forever and i could always snuggle him up like I get to now!

4 More Days!

Posted on Tuesday, May 22, 2012

Until my due date...
I have been really hopeful that this baby boy would make his appearance a bit sooner than Saturday, but apparently he is enjoying himself in there.  For the past few weekends my dad has come home and said, "you don't look miserable enough to have the baby yet!"  Which of course I have completely disagreed with him!  I think this past weekend I think he might finally have agreed with me I am getting miserable!  I finished work on Saturday for the next 8 weeks, my parents took me and Jason to La Jolla for a little dinner celebration, and I came home and realized I was sick.  My weekend has consisted of laying around and feeling horribly sick with the flu!  Now I can't wait until I feel better and can get this baby out!

And now some bump pictures...

The last being the most recent, do I look ready to pop?  People keep telling me how small I look, funny because I actually was measuring a week ahead my last appointment! yikes!  Stay small baby!

V-Day and The Bump

Posted on Saturday, February 18, 2012

For those who don't know, Jason has started working at a Mexican restaurant called Joe Vera's in Provo.  With his school schedule, work, and my work, we are basically on opposite schedules most of the week and don't see as much of each other as we used to.  On Valentines, of course Jason was working, so we celebrated by eating french toast at Kneader's for breakfast. Yum!  I also got very cute scavenger hunt around the basement :)  (Although some of the clues were written on some not so cute Walking Dead Valentine Cards....)

Today my brother and his wife arrived for LA with my cute nephew Asher!

He makes me want my own baby boy to be here already!
We went to Joe's and Jason served us.  It was fun to see him in action :)

I also realize I have been horrible about taking and posting bump pics to document this pregnancy.  It took a while for me to actually feel like a cute pregnant person instead of looking like I ate too much, and I am afraid the cute prego phase didn't last to long, I am almost in my third trimester and starting to feel big and uncomfortable.  But here are a few bump pics!

19, 20, 22, and 25 weeks.
So far my pregnancy has gone pretty well, but I can't lie I am getting more and more uncomfortable each day!  Work is still just fine as long as I take breaks to eat and sit down for a while.  Because I do a lot of standing on hard concrete floors, my hips have been super sore!  Sleeping is getting tough, hence this late night post!  I wake up having to pee or switch sides with a dead hip every hour or so and lay awake exhausted for a long time before falling asleep.  I haven't been having too many weird cravings, first trimester I craved salty things and hot dogs and mozzarella sticks, now the thought of eating a hot dog or salt and vinegar chips makes me sick!  Currently I just can't get enough ice and bananas!  Weirdly I read craving ice is a form of Pica (craving non-food items) and can be a sign of anemia, yikes!  But it is crazy to think I have only 98 days to go until this little baby is here!  I can't wait!

Top 2011 Hairstyles

Posted on Friday, January 20, 2012

In lieu of updating you on our lives as of late, I have decided to post something much less overwhelming and bring to you  my Top 5 Hairstyles of 2011!
In no particular order, they are...

Scarlett Johansson's Bob
I almost worked up the courage to chop my long hair to something like this.  It such an easy cut, and styled here so perfectly natural, the care-free hair that always seems much harder to get than it should.

Lauren Conrad's Tie-Dye Tips
LC always has such healthy and beautifully ombre colored hair, this colored version was a fun alternative to the usual blonde.  Dyed tips were so in this past year, most were far from stylish, but Lauren nailed it with both her colorful tie-dyed tips as well as her peach ombre.

Jessica Biel's Ombre Hair
Her subtle ombre so perfectly represents 2011's natural and more subdued color melting as opposed to the past's dramatic dark to platinum hair color trends.  Her color was one of the top requested colors clients requested to me this year.

Steven Tyler's Feather Extensions
Feather Hair Extensions are what I would say was the biggest trend of 2011, and lets be honest, Steven Tyler definitely wore them the best.

Emma Stone's Red Hair
Emma was blonde for some of 2011, and while she looked great then, the red she returned to was the perfect shade of red. Healthy and soft, and the perfect tone for her skin.
