Embarrassing Story Of The Day

Posted on Wednesday, December 29, 2010

Did any of you have to drive in the blizzard today?  Well let me tell you, I sure did.
I arrived at work to find my afternoon haircuts canceled because they didn't know if they could make the drive in the storm. "Storm? What Storm?" I thought.  Well I am certainly glad they did cancel because it was quite the storm!
It was raining all afternoon and I looked out the window to see small snowflakes floating down, nothing too serious.  Next thing I know it is a blizzard!!!  So I left early, and I think the combination of fresh snow on rainy streets made for some extra slick roads.  I have never been scared of driving in the snow, so I wasn't worried, but I slid 3 times driving down the hill and only made it 3 blocks from my work before this unfortunate event happened...
a big jeep cut me off, and so it was necessary for me to slam on my brakes, and we all know brake slamming and snow streets don't go well together.  So I honked my horn, but apparently a little too hard because my horn wouldn't stop!  Luckily a grocery store was right there so I turned/slid into the parking lot and quickly turned off my car to stop the honking.
Turned it back on, still honking!
So I call Jason at work and he tells me to unhook the fuse.  Car's have fuse boxes? Whhaaatt?
So I turn on the car again, and this time a nice man shoveling the parking lot comes over to see if I'm ok.  Yep, just trying to get my car to stop honking....I am so embarrassed.  So I sit there for a while not turning on my car and not knowing where a car's fuse box is located.
Luckily my mom calls me just then because she felt like she needed to make sure I was safe in the snow storm.
No!  I am never going to make it home! Seriously!  I have never had snow driving problems like this before!  This is when I start crying out of frustration because my horn won't stop honking and my car won't stop sliding and my car is getting cold, and I start laughing because I mean really, this is so stupid!
My dad makes me turn on my car again, still honking!
This time a nice grandpa type man salting the parking lot comes over and asks if I need help and he tries to fix the honking horn.  So I pop my hood, and a man from the meat market on his break runs inside to save the day with some pliers, and the nice grandpa man removes the fuse and saves my life from freezing to death in this parking lot!
After thanking him profusely realize there is now way my car is making it up capitol hill safely to my apt.  So an hour later I arrive at Jason's work and we take the long way up the hill and I am finally safe and warm in my apt.... whew!

and I bet you all thought I was going to say I got in a car crash...

  1. Oh my gosh Rachel! I'm so glad you're okay... and yes I did think you were going to say you were in a car accident. Ha. I love the honking horn story, it reminds of Brian Regan. Hahahahahahaha.

  2. Ok, so I know that this was not a hilarious experience for you, but I could not stop laughing reading this. But I also cried from driving in the snow frustration, so don't get too upset that I laughed :)
