SLC's Fashion Night Out 2012

Posted on Sunday, September 16, 2012

Last night I had the fun opportunity to style hair with the salon at Fashion Night Out.  I love doing hair for these sorts of things, it allows my to be creative in ways I don't normally get to be in the salon.  Plus, doing hair for a runway show was on my list of things to do as a hairstylist back when I was in hair school.  I feel I can now say my list is complete, something I feel few can say! I still have so much more I can accomplish, I think it is time to make a new goal list!

We did Hair for Mary Rino, a bridal designer who makes gorgeous romantic gowns.  We set hair in curls and weaved hair into big romantic dutch braids.  The green room was crowded with models, makeup artists, hairstylists and photographers all elbowing their ways around each other to finish the looks.

As we sat in the middle of the Gallivan Center waiting for the first runway show to begin, we people watched and were fascinated with how many interesting people were gathered to one place.  I began to get a sense of what it would be like to be at the Capitol in the Hunger Games.  People with hair every color of the rainbow wandered around, hairstylists with crazy (ugly) haircuts and black clothing liberally applied hairspray to models hair, people sat around dressed as if they had stepped out of every era possible. (Bettie Page you're real cute.)  As fun as it was, at the same time it was a little silly.  We all try too hard to impress each other...

Top 2011 Hairstyles

Posted on Friday, January 20, 2012

In lieu of updating you on our lives as of late, I have decided to post something much less overwhelming and bring to you  my Top 5 Hairstyles of 2011!
In no particular order, they are...

Scarlett Johansson's Bob
I almost worked up the courage to chop my long hair to something like this.  It such an easy cut, and styled here so perfectly natural, the care-free hair that always seems much harder to get than it should.

Lauren Conrad's Tie-Dye Tips
LC always has such healthy and beautifully ombre colored hair, this colored version was a fun alternative to the usual blonde.  Dyed tips were so in this past year, most were far from stylish, but Lauren nailed it with both her colorful tie-dyed tips as well as her peach ombre.

Jessica Biel's Ombre Hair
Her subtle ombre so perfectly represents 2011's natural and more subdued color melting as opposed to the past's dramatic dark to platinum hair color trends.  Her color was one of the top requested colors clients requested to me this year.

Steven Tyler's Feather Extensions
Feather Hair Extensions are what I would say was the biggest trend of 2011, and lets be honest, Steven Tyler definitely wore them the best.

Emma Stone's Red Hair
Emma was blonde for some of 2011, and while she looked great then, the red she returned to was the perfect shade of red. Healthy and soft, and the perfect tone for her skin.

Your Hair's New Best Friend

Posted on Monday, February 21, 2011

About every month or so at the salon we have classes to enable us to offer the latest new services to you all.  Usually somebody in the salon gets to be the model, and a couple weeks ago, it was me, and I am really excited to tell you about something that will make your hair so stupidly easy to style!
The Brazilian Blowout!

I am sure you have heard celebrities such as Nicole Richie, Lindsay Lohan, Jennifer Aniston, and pretty much everyone else in Hollywood rave about it, but now I can too!

My once frizzy, damaged, lackluster locks, are now smooth, shiny and incredibly easy to style.  Before, no matter how much tedious round brushing and how much product I applied, I still had to spend 15 minutes smoothing my strands with a flat iron after blow drying to look decent enough to walk out the door.  Now, all i have to do is blow dry to add a little volume and shape, and I am good to go.  Before, i would let my hair air-dry in hopes of beachy natural waves, to get a frizzy mix of straight and curly hair that took time to retouch with a curling iron to appear like a normal person.  Now, my hair air-dries frizz-free, shiny and smooth.

I know that I am a hairstylist, so i should enjoy styling my hair, right?  Unfortunately that is not so, and this has made the chore so much easier.  With the Blowout you still need to style your hair, it just makes it a lot more manageable.

So I feel that I need to show you the results on my own hair, but I am lacking an amazing photographer, and don't have too many great 'after' photos to choose from, but just see below how smooth and shiny my hair is now after blow dried, and a example of how frizzy it is after air drying (which was also hard to find.)

The Brazilian Blowout is a smoothing system which coats the hair strand in a keratin protein, which protects and strengthens the hair.  It helps improve the health of your hair by removing the burden that hot tools can cause to your hair, not only by eliminating the need for them, but by protecting the hair when they are used.  With proper after-care, it can last up to 3 months.  Unlike other hair relaxers, it doesn't damage the hair when applied, and is safe to use on colored hair, and treated hair can be colored as well.  Check out their website for more information, and take a look at their facebook page to see all the before and afters.

I strongly recommend the Brazilian Blowout to anyone who has frizzy, dull, unmanageable, coarse, curly, wavy hair, in any of the above combinations.  It can cut down your styling time, and leave you with prettier, healthier hair.  It is definitely worth the investment
Seriously! Call me so we can treat your hair!

The Life And Adventures of Jason Sayre's Hair

Posted on Sunday, February 20, 2011

My husband has some interesting hair, he hasn't let me cut it since the wedding, about 8 months.  Sorting through pictures I have come to realize that his hair has had some pretty good times these past months. See for yourself...

Sometimes, he lets me flat iron it for a laugh, sometimes he wakes up with a mullet, but mostly he just looks like this, hat on to hide his growing poof of curls that he won't let me get touch with a pair of scissors, because as all hairstylists know, husbands really do make the worst clients.

P.S. The Salmon at Blue Lemon is super yummy :)

Feather Hair Extensions

Posted on Friday, February 11, 2011

I am really excited to be offering a fun new service at the salon!

Feather Locks Hair Extensions!

They are so fun and bohemian looking.  I have just ordered my kit and can't wait until it arrives so I can put some in my own hair.
The feathers are put in your hair using a silicone-lined bead.  They can be washed, flat ironed, curled, and styled to match your own hair.  There is so many fun colors providing a variety of looks for your hair.  You can go natural and subtle, or bright and bold.  The feathers can stay up to 2 months and then can be moved back up and reused.  Take a look at their website to see all the colors available and read more about them at www.conditionculture.com

Feather extensions have been seen on a ton celebrities at different events like sundance.
They are a fun hair accessory, and relatively cheap!  They are $10 an extension, or $25 for 3
Call me so we can put these in your hair!  I am so excited to get them in and can't wait to show them off!
